Glossary - Letter E

Easement is a right given to the property owner over adjoining property or land that's owned by someone else.

There are different types of easement and these include rights of way (i.e. use of a pathway or track) or rights to access a waterway (for example, to fish in a privately-owned pond).

An easement is considered as a property right in itself.
